Friday pint

5 December 2008

Every Friday I transfer posts here from the Virtual Pint archives.

  • Random Solitaire (March 2004) — I just keep coming back to the story.
  • Public transit tears (March 2004) — This is one of the coolest compliments I’ve ever had as a writer. I’d be curious to hear what books have made you cry?

Oh, and guess how that 4:15 thing turned out when I started screenwriting? Sorry, honey (blows kiss to Nicola through the internet).

  • Escape (March 2004) — As if that’s a bad thing…

Enjoy your day.

Landscape, sea scape, Zorro’s cape escape! Good reading is like falling out of the old world into the new. The old world is fine, but the new world really draws me down. I never know what reading is going to do it. Most of my greatest adventures, both with books and people have started with chance encounters.

What books have made me cry? I’m sure there’s more than I can remember, since I’m such a softy when it comes to literature, cinema, and music. But for some reason, it took me a while to come up with titles, so I decided to start keeping a list of books that made me cry. Kelley, what are yours? You don’t say.

I cried while reading Bleak House . I was hanging out late, at the Sweet Petite. My friend worked there. Sometimes I helped her close the place. But on this night, I was reading. I was so into the story–Jo had just died– that I didn’t see the guy in the hooded Patriots jacket walk in. Turns out, he robbed my friend while I was crying about Jo.

    “Jo died!”
    “I just got robbed.”

    Sigh….too funny.
