@ sahiga: Thank you! I’m glad it stuck with you. It was brave to take it into a creative writing class, since there’s often a fair amount of genre prejudice in those situations. If I had a nickel for every writer I knew who had been dismissed by a teacher for writing “that stuff”….

I’m very happy to share stories here — I want people to read them. I’ll get around to posting more as time permits.

And I assume you know that “Dangerous Space”, another story of Mars, is also available here on the site.

I love this story. In my first creative writing class, about a year and a half ago, we were asked to bring in a published story that we felt strongly about in some way. I shared yours because I wanted to share something different and because it stuck with me for such a long time (perhaps not as long as Solitaire did, though!). Thanks for keeping it here for more people to enjoy.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Yes, the rush of Salome is different from that of Dangerous Space. If you ever read “Eye of the Storm” (the other story of Mars), you’ll have to let me know where on the “rush” spectrum it falls for you.

Thank you. I didn’t breathe through the last quarter of it. It’s exactly as it should be.

Since I’ve read Dangerous Space yesterday, I’m still full of the other story and it’s slow buildup. I was looking for Mars of yesterday but he wasn’t quite there: but that felt right too.
